About This Grant

The Australia-Japan Foundation (AJF) seeks to advance Australia’s engagement with Japan by supporting people-to-people linkages, promoting a contemporary image of Australia in Japan, and facilitating informed discussion on key bilateral foreign and trade policy issues. The objectives of the AJF are: to increase awareness and understanding in Japan of shared interests with Australia; to increase awareness and understanding in Australia of the importance of Japan to Australia as an economic and strategic partner; and to increase recognition in Japan of Australian excellence and expertise. Key priority areas are society, culture and sport; economic diplomacy and geopolitics; education and Australian studies; scientific innovation; and communication, information and advocacy.

Eligibility

Have an Australian Business Number (ABN), Australian Company Number (ACN), or Indigenous Corporation Number (ICN); Australian consortiums with a lead organisation; Australian registered charities or not-for-profit organisations; Australian local government bodies; Australian State/Territory government bodies; corporate Commonwealth entities; Australian statutory authorities; Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia; Japanese citizens or organisations.

Legal requirements: Tax Concession Charity (TCC), Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR1), Public Benevolent Institution, Academic institution, Nonprofit legal entity (inc. assn, company, coop. or trust), Local government, Government body, For-profit, Individual, ACNC Registered Charity

Exclusions

Capital expenditure; purchase of equipment; retrospective costs or recurrent funding; activities that are already commercially viable; activities that will provide commercial advantage to the applicant; costs incurred in preparation of application; general ongoing administration expenses; activities that are the primary responsibility of other government bodies; conference/meeting travel (with exceptions); scholarships to individual students; completed projects.
