At McKinnon, they exist to empower better governments for a stronger Australia. Their work focuses on four core areas where they believe meaningful, measurable impact matters most: political leadership, the public sector, democracy, and policy innovation. At times McKinnon provides grants to programs and organisations outside of their focus areas.

Projects of organisations that are not-for-profit with a charitable purpose, that have a DGR status (or have an auspice partner) and that have TCC status; funding can be either one-year or multi-year commitments, depending on the scope and focus of the project. The foundation is a non-partisan organisation and therefore does not fund or provide donations to political parties.
