About This Grant

The objective of the Centres of Research Excellence (CRE) grant program is to improve health outcomes and promote or improve translation of research outcomes into policy and/or practice. The CRE grant program will also support researchers in capacity building activities, including in specific areas of need identified by NHMRC. Funding will be available across 4 application streams in the CRE grant opportunity: basic science research; clinical research; health services research; public health research.

Eligibility

Applications will only be accepted from NHMRC-approved Administering Institutions. At the time of acceptance and for the duration of a grant the primary chief investigator (CIA) must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia or have an appropriate work visa in place. The CIA must also be based in Australia for at least 80% of the funding period. Funds are for research cost expenditure in Australia only.

Legal requirements: Academic institution, Aboriginal Community-Controlled, Nonprofit legal entity (inc. assn, company, coop. or trust), Government body

Exclusions

NHMRC will not fund research that it considers duplicates research previously or currently being funded. CRE grants are not normally intended to provide salary support for Chief Investigators (CIs). However, if salaries are sought for CIs, the costs must be directly associated with achieving the outcomes of the research.
