First Nations FOI & GIPA Directory
Find official information-access sources concerning Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, First Nations communities, organisations, lands, programs, funding and public decisions.
This is a curated Barayamal directory—not an official or complete government register. It prioritises First Nations-focused bodies and broader agencies likely to hold relevant records.
Last full source check 9 August 2026 · links re-tested 19 August 2026
Directory status
Every source link was re-tested on 19 August 2026 and none returned a missing page. Three sources that an automated check had recorded as unavailable — AIATSIS, the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and Indigenous Business Australia — were opened directly and confirmed live. Their entries have been corrected.
Some agency websites use automated bot protection, which can block a scripted check even when the disclosure log itself is current. Where that happens the source is left as last verified rather than marked unavailable.
The directory contains 38 sources — 22 Australian Government FOI and 16 NSW GIPA.
Most recently added source

Start with the public record
Search public requests, browse the official Commonwealth directory or find the NSW agency that holds the information.
Search public requests
A live Right to Know search focused on original requests containing Aboriginal, Indigenous, First Nations or Torres Strait Islander terms. Public correspondence is not necessarily an official release.
Open ↗OAIC · OFFICIALAustralian Government FOI directory
The OAIC’s central list links to agency disclosure logs. It does not consolidate every request or released document.
Open ↗NSW · OFFICIALNSW GIPA access directory
NSW has no complete record-level hub. Use the official directory to identify the agency, then check its disclosure log below.

Read the badges. An active disclosure log, a historical resource, an umbrella source and a page where no public log was found are different things. “No public log found” does not mean the body received no requests.

How this directory is built
Barayamal checks official agency websites and prioritises bodies whose mandate directly concerns Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Broader agencies are included where they are likely to hold First Nations-related information.
The last complete check of the then-listed 37 sources was 9 August 2026. A partial check on 11 August 2026 reconfirmed 34 of those sources and added the National EPA as a new official source. Inclusion reflects an agency’s mandate or likelihood of holding relevant records; it does not mean every entry in that agency’s disclosure log concerns First Nations people.
Coverage limits
- FOI and GIPA disclosure logs are not complete registers of every request, refusal or released document.
- NSW agencies generally list only formal-release information they consider may interest other people.
- Documents may be supplied only on request, removed after a period or published with redactions.
- Other Australian states and territories are not yet indexed.
