We are conducting an important study to understand the socio-economic impacts of Whitehaven Coal’s operations on First Nations communities.
Mining operations have far-reaching implications for the socio-economic and environmental landscape of the regions in which they operate and in the case of Whitehaven Coal, understanding its impact on First Nations People is not only critical for assessing the company’s current practices but also for shaping future policies that promote fairness, sustainability and respect for Indigenous rights.
Our Core Research Questions
- What are the primary socio-economic impacts of Whitehaven Coal’s operations on First Nations communities? Which aims to identify and analyse the key economic and social effects, including employment, income changes and quality of life alterations.
- How do these impacts compare to the company’s stated goals and policies regarding Indigenous employment and engagement? Evaluate the effectiveness and transparency of Whitehaven Coal’s policies and their real-world application.
- What are the perceived benefits and disadvantages as reported by the First Nations communities themselves? Understanding community perspectives is crucial so we’ll gather and analyse firsthand accounts from affected people.
